So much to explore during your Margaret River Holiday
Natural Attractions
There are many natural attractions and activities to explore during your Margaret River holiday. Set in the south-west of Western Australia, Margaret River offers fabulous surf and beaches, caves and national parks, where the wildflowers abound in spring.
Lying between Cape Naturaliste in the north and Cape Leeuwin, Margaret River is both a town and a river. Many water activities are to be enjoyed on the river, including canoeing.
One of the main natural attractions in the region is the many natural caves formed from the limestone ridge which runs under the region. The caves are managed by Caveworks, a visitor's eco centre which is free with all cave tickets.
Explore Lake Cave, Jewel Cave, Mammoth Cave and Yallingup or Ngilgi's Cave. From your Margaret River map, you will see that they are off Caves Road which runs from Dunsborough to the south.
Mammoth Cave is just 25 kilometres from Margaret River township and is known for the many pre-historic bones found in it. Listen to the headset for a guided tour. Two kilometres to the south is Lake Cave with its unique 'Table' which is a must-see for all cave enthusiasts. To view the world's largest straw stalactite, you need to visit Jewel Cave.
Also visit the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the most southern westerly tip of Australia. The Cape Leeuwin waterwheel, built to bring fresh water to the lighthouse, has been calcified by the limestone.
The Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park is great. Easily accessible, it is abundant with wildflowers, wild surf and fabulous rock formations.
